Encyclopedias

The Canadian Encyclopedia – the full text of The Canadian Encyclopedia and its related resources has been made available online by the Historica Foundation as a public service since 1999.

Encyclopedia Britannica – although this is a subscription encyclopedia, there is a lot of content that can be accessed for free.

Dictionary, Thesaurus, Almanac, Quotations

Frequently the websites that offer one of these, offer more.

Dictionary.com – licensed content from over 15 trusted and established sources including Random House and Harper Collins. Dictionary.com also includes a thesaurus, encyclopedia references, quotations, and a translator, as well as other useful tools.

Onelook.com – searches over 1,000 dictionaries from a single search box.

Larousse.com has a variety of multi-lingual dictionaries. Along with English/French, you can access several different language dictionaries.

Bartleby.com is a great source of quotations, books and reference answers.

Infoplease is a one-stop resource centre for dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, altas, and almanac questions.

CIA World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities.
